One Skill I wish I had but don’t

I thought I’d join back in on the blog hop this week. In case you haven’t seen the news, here in Japan pretty much everything is such down in an attempt to contain the spread of Corvid. The schools are closed, and all festivals, sports events, etc. It’s kind of strange to watch the baseball teams play with empty seats in the stadium. Even sumo wrestling, for the first time in history, was held with just the participants and not the audience. It’s oddly Orwellian to see how empty things are.

So, I figured why not blog? It’s good to think about something else.

I couldn’t narrow my list down to just one skill I wish I had, so here are a few.

Knitting. This seems like one of those things everyone is doing nowadays and I have no idea. I’m not terribly good at anything requiring hand coordination of any sort. My Girl Scout days were plagued by the eternally unfinished cross stitches.

Sewing. I can’t do this either beyond managing to sew a button back on. If I can find the button. Which I usually don’t.

Playing the piano. A skill that I lost. I used to as a child, but haven’t in decades. I’ve considered starting lessons again because I think I’d probably appreciate it more now.

More language skills. I can speak English and Japanese. I’d love to learn Russian and Hebrew. I might actually go ahead and give Russian a go if I can find a really patient teacher.

Piloting a galaxy class starship. I can but dream.

  1. Piloting a galaxy class starship would be amazing!

I hope you stay healthy. Some public events in Canada have started to be cancelled, too, but not everything.

    My post.

  2. I’d love to learn another language! Studied German for five years but would love to learn Irish Gaelic. My grandmother could crochet a storm–so talented! Yet the trait did not pass on to me. I’d probably poke my eye out trying to make one stitch.

Stay safe and well, Echo! Our school district is under lockdown here after several students tested positive.

  3. Oooooo . . . Piloting a galaxy class starship! Awesome. Can I crew on it? I could navigate, maybe. Though I am not hip to science. That would be a good skill that I do not have but wouldn’t mind acquiring. Science. 😀 But I can knit and sew.

Stay well. Good thoughts and positive energy.

  4. Hahaha at that last one. What is it Eames says in Inception? Don’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling!

OH! Check out Duolingo! It’s a free app and I’ve been using it to learn Romanian. Why? I don’t even know, it’s not useful in the least but… I have a long-standing love of the country (again, I have no idea why), so why not? 🙂

Stay safe and healthy though. My co-worker has an exchange student from Japan living with him. I worry about what will happen with her when it’s time for her to go home.

    1. I think I have Duolingo or a sample. Too many apps. I hope she won’t be delayed long or quarantined. Must be tough for an exchange student to deal with all that.

      1. Yeah, I hear you on having too many apps. I hope not, either She won’t be going home until May and a lot can change between now and then. Seriously, it would be hard to be away from your family without all this going on.

  5. This is a GREAT list! It seems more than a few of us want to learn piano. Such a beautiful instrument. Thanks for sharing!
