Hello out there.
I haven’t done the blog hop in a while. Like everyone else in the world, there was a lot of upheaval. And somehow other things I do for fun, like blogging, got pushed to the side.
But I saw this topic Favorite poems, short stories, or novellas.
I am an avid reader, so I always have an ever evolving list of favorites. For this post, I thought of doing short stories. And I want to focus on radio dramas. I listen to a lot of audiobooks. I recently listened to the audiobook version of the new Battlestar Galactica, which I like better than the show. (I didn’t hate the show, I just never got into it). There aren’t many shows on TV or even Netflix I follow much, so classic radio dramas and audiobooks have become my latests interest. I’ve always liked X-Minus One, Dimension X or the CBS Radio Mystery Hour.
Mindwebs began as a Wisconsin radio program in the 70’s co-hosted by Michael Hanson, who passed away last fall. He did a remarkable job narrating wonderful classic SF stories. I got hooked on MINDWEBS (https://archive.org/details/MindWebs_201410) via some of its stories being broadcast on Relic Radio Sci-Fi.(https://www.relicradio.com/otr/show/scifi/) There is also a collection of open source at the Internet Archive. My personal favorite MINDWEBS stories are: Treasure Hunt/ Joseph Green and The Hall of Machines/ Langdon Jones.
There are other radio drama stories I really like too:
Cold Equations/ Tom Goodwin
Imposter/ Philip K. Dick
The Ballad of Lost C’Mell/ Cordwainer Smith
These stories are all worth reading too. Since I live overseas, it’s not always that easy to find them affordably. But I know that Philip K. Dick collections are available in e-book form and I did get the e-book collection of Cordwainer Smith.
Does anyone else listen to audiobooks or radio dramas? Any recommendations?

I can listen to some talk radio (I grew up with a parent who insisted all road trips involved listening to the local radio station and the sports talk radio shows. I still remember the jingles), but audio books are just not my thing. I’ve tried. But these sound good. I’ll add them to my growing TBR list!

I listened to a ton of talk radio. When I was growing up, my parents listened to NPR all the time.

I love old radio shows! I used to listen to a lot of questionable dramatisations of Sherlock Holmes stories from the 1940s and I have a real soft spot for them. I’ll have to go find MINDWEBS and Relic Radio, thanks for sharing!

I love radio drama and audio books. I am currently listening the FBI series by Catherine Colter. I loved reading them years ago, but listening . . . A whole new experience. I also enjoy listening to the IN Death series by J.D. Robb. Susan Ericksen is an awesome narrator. I have some X-Files and Doctor Who in my library too. I think there may be some Shakespear too. I have a huge audible library. So much to read and listen to, so little time!

I haven’t watched X-files for a while. I loved the X-files and had some o the paperbacks. I probably should check out the audiobooks.

Didn’t love the new BSG, and really did NOT like the ending (with Starbuck). So… I can’t seem to listen to audiobooks. I tend to focus completely on something when I’m doing it, and reading audiobooks makes me antsy so I can’t concentrate on them. It’s a weird affliction, lol… I do love the old radio shows, though. LOVE.

I haven’t thought of those radio dramas in a long time, but they were so well crafted they are definitely worth a listen. Podcasts are the young whipper snappers of those great stories.
